My Approach

'Counselling on the Canal' offers a unique approach to personal growth and wellbeing, blending reflective support with the tranquil, natural setting alongside the canal in Glasgow. The business provides holistic, relational support through a pluralistic lens, adapting each session to the individual's needs. With a core approach grounded in lived experience and professional care work, the business offers affordable, respectful sessions, especially for carers and those marginalised by systems. The key beliefs of 'Counselling on the Canal' include the idea that healing begins with being deeply heard, there is no one-size-fits-all approach, and clients are the experts of their own lives. The business aims to honour language, power, and culture differences with care and offers fixed-rate sessions to those working in health and care sectors.

At Counselling on the Canal, I offer a unique approach to personal growth and wellbeing that blends reflective support with the tranquil, natural setting alongside the canal. This isn’t traditional therapy or clinical counselling. Instead, it’s a holistic, non-clinical space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and life transitions through guided reflection, mentoring, and wellbeing coaching.

My approach is grounded in lived experience and emphasizes kindness, insight, and empowerment. Whether through one-on-one sessions, women’s circles, menopause wellness support, or walk-and-reflect sessions by the water, my goal is to provide you with a supportive, safe environment to gain clarity, balance, and confidence in your life.

“Counselling” here means holding space for your personal insight and growth, without diagnosis or medical treatment, just honest, compassionate guidance tailored to you.

About Me

I offer holistic, relational support through a pluralistic lens. My approach is grounded in lived experience, professional care work, and a commitment to affordable, respectful sessions—especially for carers and those marginalised by systems.

Core Approach

  • Pluralistic and Person-Centred: I adapt each session to the individual, drawing from a range of approaches.

  • Egan’s Skilled Helper Model: Structured yet flexible—helps clients move forward without rushing emotional work.

  • Psychodynamic Insight: Gently noticing how past relationships shape the present, when appropriate.

  • Carl Rogers’ Core Conditions: Empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence are foundational.

Key Beliefs

  • Healing begins with being deeply heard—not judged or analysed.

  • There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Clients are the experts of their own lives—I walk beside them, not ahead of them.

  • Language, power, and culture affect every room we enter. I honour those differences with care.

Life Experience as Practice

I bring years of experience in palliative and end-of-life care, including first-hand understanding of grief, burnout, and emotional suppression in care roles. I offer fixed-rate sessions (£20/hour) to those working in health and care sectors, because support should not be a luxury.

Boundaries and Values

  • Non-negotiables: Respect, honesty, safety—both ways.

  • I do not rescue or fix: I provide consistent, grounded support.

  • I stay humble: I listen, reflect, and continue learning.

Hope for Clients

That you rediscover who you are beneath what you've had to survive. That you feel seen, heard, and supported—not just in sessions, but in their wider life. That you leave knowing change is possible—and that your never alone.
